Message

This server went down at 13:09 and we're currently working to resolve the issue. Hopefully it'll be back promptly.

Update: 13:54

There appears to be a disk issue currently. This means that fsck is running on the machine at the moment which could take a long time as it's running on the /home partition which has circa 3million files or so on it. I will post another update when I thing I have an ETA for it to come back up.

Update: 19:30

We're still working on this server. We do apologise for this extended downtime and we assure you that once recovered from it, won't happen again as we're putting measures in place to mitigate such issues. To address concerns regarding e-mail, mostly sending mail servers will queue the e-mail for upto 5 days so you should all get your e-mail once it's back up.

Update: 21:45

All services should be restored. If anyone is still experiencing issues please contact our support desk

I'm hosting two domains on this server. However, I see from the MX records that the only server listed for mail for my domains is gorlois.blacknight.ie. There are no other backup MX servers listed. Could Blacknight have a second (or even third) MX server available to receive e-mails while the main server is down? This shouldn't require another server if there is another SMTP server already on the Blacknight network (I assume there is). This is a standard ISP practice (or at least it was in my day). Just my $0.02 worth.

Please advise on ETA on fix as
I will need to find alternative email if more than 2 hours??

What's the latest. please provide more frequent updates. my whole system is down since 1pm.

This is a little like 2001
is there anyone out there
No updates for nearly four hours
can some please enlighten your clients please!

Any ideas how much longer this is going to be down guys?? It's been 5 hours now..

Thanks.

Derek

Surely everyone who relies on this server should have been notified by email.

Hi
I have been unable to access my email since 1400 today. I checked Blacknightstatus and find that the Gorlois server is down and the last update is timed at 13.54 and no indication as to when it might be back up.
Back-up sever????
Not very impressed!

While we appreciate wheels will fall off wagons, could we please be told when we will have service back again?

The server went down at 13.09, since when all we have is an update at 13.54.

It's now 19.35 and no service is supplied and no information is provided to us, the customer.

Thanks

Thanks for the update dated by you at 19.30.

We still don't know when we can tell our clients we will be back in business.

Will you tell us, please?

The server should be back up and running again now as per our latest update.

Sorry about the delay in publishing comments - we were sending the email notifications of new comments to the wrong place!

just out of interest, was the problem fixed with the same hard-drive, or was a new hard-drive provided?

I just want to add my empathy to the engineers here - a few weeks ago I had a server fail on me (not a Blacknight machine) and the system was completely screwed. It took /days/ to copy over all the files onto a new hard-drive and reset the software and configurations.

I see that a lot of the commenters above were insisting on ETAs. Unfortunately, it's not always easy to offer one. In my own case, I started off offering an ETA of a few hours which eventually grew to days as more and more problems were discovered.

An email to each person would probably not have been ideal either, as in a lot of cases, the person's email would have been on the broken machine.
