Summary: Tomorrow morning starting at 4am we're having a major software update is being installed tomorrow morning in our live environment. This is bringing us from version 5.0.3 of our control panel software all the way to 5.2.1. We expect that this will cause some issues with the control panel itself but services shouldn't be affected. i.e. no website, email downtime etc. What: Once this upgrade is installed customers are going to see significant changes in their CP. We've been working with Parallels for 4 years and in the last 18 months we've engaged with them on a number of UI and usability elements of our systems.
So essentially improvements are filtering through in each update. There is an exhaustive list of feature changes, updates, bug fixes etc far too much to put on the blog.
Below is an example of what the hosting section in cp.blacknight.com will look like tomorrow:
Support for AAAA (IPv6 based dns records) will be added tomorrow. We'll also be moving all shared hosting customers on cp.blacknight.com to new servers in the coming months and everyone will get IPv6.
Support for OsCommerce in the application vault has been dropped. This is mainly because it's not being maintained.
There are a lot more but like I mentioned above it's not a good idea to fill this blog post with 100s of changes as most of them will be meaningless to most people
Update: 09:00 - the major part of the upgrade from version 5.0 through 5.1 to 5.2 is complete. However there is another upgrade to 5.2.1 which means we're going to run over the original time frame that we had allocated. This means that the CP may be up and down for another hour to 1.5 hours. We estimate that everything should be completed at the latest by 11:00 am.
