We are currently experiencing email issues.
Services impacted:
- webmail
- imap/pop3
- smtp
on mail.blacknight.com / smtpr1.cp.blacknight.com / pop33r.cp.blacknight.com

We narrowed this event down to 1 main problem. i.e. the nightly backup that normally runs for 4 hours from 11pm until around 3am was still running during the business hours. As this runs at a block level it wasn't obviously that it was causing the problem. At around 15:30 we stopped the backup and at this point mail started to return to normal.
As of 17:30 we have confirmed normal operation of our mail systems. We've been monitoring it closely and traffic levels have returned to normal. There is however some e-mail in our queues that will take time to deal with.
If you're still seeing issues after 17:30 please restart your e-mail client. If this doesn't help please contact the helpdesk by e-mailing support@blacknight.com
This does not effect our Hosted Exchange platform.

How many email issues have we had in the past year?
At a guess I'd say we're averaging one a month.

Is mail back up or not?
I got re-connected about 14:15, but it seems to be down again ...
When will mail be restored? It has been down for most of the day?
