Qmail Cluster Issues

TrackBacks (0) Comments (0)
Our Qmail cluster was experiencing some issues earlier this morning.

For an unknown reason which is still being  investigated, qmail stopped closing connections correctly and eventually ran out of available connections causing the outages.

Forcefully killing off the stuck qmail processes and restarting qmail fixed the issues, and it's still being monitored

UPDATE: 12:24

On further investigation our technical team found some other issues, which would have impacted end users

In essence LDAP had issues. As LDAP looks after all authentication then other services would have appeared to be degraded.

Transient Network Issues On Some VLANs

TrackBacks (0) Comments (0)
Our technical team is currently investigating some transient network issues, including packet loss, affecting some VLANs

Update: 20:45

We've narrowed this issue down to a firewall pair in Data Electronics that protects about 8 vlans. These range from customer vlans to vlans for our old shared hosting platform. All servers connected to these networks experienced packet loss ranging from 2% to 50% sporadically during this extended issue.

We've still not found the route cause, but services are currently fully restored and our investigation continues.

If there are any issues lingering from this issue please e-mail the support desk, dedicated and colo customers please call the on-call number.

Auroa Fibre Outage

TrackBacks (0) Comments (0)
This morning our backup CWDM link from DEG <-> InterXion experienced an outage of 5 seconds approx. We got a call immediately from our fibre provider informing us of a possible low light situation with this link.

We've a ticket open regarding this and we're monitoring the situation at the moment. Due to the design and resilience built into our network this outage did not affect production traffic.

Update: 12:30

We got a call back regarding this. The fibre strand carrying our wave lengths was snagged while pulling other fibre into the HBA facility in North Dublin. This resulted in a 25db loss in signal strength. This snag was found and the fibre was straightend and the problem should be fully resolved. No reoccuring blip occurred during the fix.
