cp.blacknight.com - location change for website settings

TrackBacks (0) Comments (0)
Summary: Our friends in Parallels have given us an updated control panel during the night. The changes are subtle but they're there and might cause some confusion.

Firstly the idea of webspaces can now really be forgotten. They have moved all ftp, website settings (php, error logging etc) has been moved to Sites & Domains > $Domainname we've updated the knowledge base article for this, please see:

https://support.blacknight.ie/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=274

Secondly the Linux web hosting now defaults to adding all domains to one webspace. It will now automatically populate the location. e.g.

if you are adding the domainname "myidea.ie" the location will be set to /myidea.ie - this means that you should not be able to accidentally overwrite another website on the system. It also means that for new domains you should be reliably able to guess its location within your ftp location.

Billing and Store Offline

Comments (4)
The billing section of our control panel and our online store are currently offline.

We have taken both facilities offline as there are some database issues and inconsistencies that need to be repaired. Since new orders and renewals etc., use the database we have disabled everything while working on the issue

If you need to change nameservers on a domain name please contact our support desk.

UPDATE 0921 - we brought the system back online around midnight last night

mail.blacknight.com / smtpr1.cp.blacknight.com major maintenance

TrackBacks (0) Comments (0)
Summary: On 23:00 on Monday 10th of October we're going to take the mail cluster offline completely for approx 4 hours until 03:00. This is to facilitate the following:

1) Upgraded storage space for the mail store
2) Upgraded performance for the mail store
3) Upgraded file system from ext3 to ext4 for performance reasons

We're doing this in stages.

Stage 1)

We've restored the existing mail system from a recent backup to a new location. We'll begin copying that data to the new Mail Storage node which has 20Gbit/s of connectivity to our SAN. We estimate that this will take approx 24-48 hours to complete.

Stage 2)

We will then take the mail system offline again in a couple of nights to do a final sync of the changes on the new system. This will depend largely on the amount of time it takes to do the copy over to the SAN. Estimations range from between 36 and 50 hours approx.

Tonight we're simply relocating the servers to a new rack in close proximity to our SAN. And while they're down we're doing a clean up of old mailboxes and purging data that is no longer required.

Update: 03:30: Everything went as planned tonight regarding this move. The servers are now in their new home. This week we hope to swap the storage backends. We'll put a further maintenance window in place for this with an ETA (as of now) for Friday night this week.

cp.blacknight.com - Control Panel Windows hosting plan issues

TrackBacks (0) Comments (0)
There is an issue with the control panel system and Windows subscriptions at the moment.  We have raised it with the control panel vendors and hope to have it resolved as soon as possible.

Please note that this should not affect your websites or email access at all, it is just the communication between the control panel and windows subscriptions specifically.  This may prevent you from logging in to cp.blacknight.com if you only have a Windows subscription (or a Windows subscription is the default subscription on your account), or from selecting a windows plan under Select Subscription if you have multiple subscriptions.

Update - 15:06: I'm afraid this issue is not yet resolved but the entire pem service needed to be restarted to help resolve it.  This would have brought down the cp.blacknight.com login screen itself for all users.  We hope to have this back up shortly.

Update - 15:15: This issue should be fully resolved now.
